As an old Chinese saying goes, when two tigers fight, one is sure to lose. It was a appropriate summary of Stage 3. No matter in Winner’s or Loser’s Bracket, there were many breathtaking matches.
There’s a sufficiency of drama in Wan Tongle’s match against young player Wang Shengye. Wang had a comfortable start, he kept a 3-rack lead over his opponent 9-6. Wan Tongle, however, was worthy of a pool master. He was swift to respond with a counterattack. Under his relentless attack, the tide was rapidly turned 9-10. Two players broke and ran successively until the match came to hill-hill decider. Under huge pressure, Wang made a fatal mistake and ruined his 24-rack struggle.
Wang Yun was debilitated by stomachache today. He met Li Xiaopeng and got a good start of 9-5 but failed to consolidate his lead. Suffering from the pain, Wang Yun was off form obviously. Finally Li seized the opportunity and defeated Wang Yun 13-10. After the match, Li Xiaopeng also said frankly, “I was almost gave up. But Wang was not feeling well. He left me many chances.” Then he lost to Li Bo in the following match, which made him left the tournament with regret.
Popular player Zheng Yubo got two successively victories today. Facing Li Ke, he finished a rough reversal. Then Yubo picked up Li Hewen, runner-up of JOY Chinese Pool US Open. Unexpectedly, Yubo knocked Li out in only 16 racks.
Yu Haitao, Champion of 7th Grand Finals, entered Stage 4 smoothly. He controlled the rhyme of match against Fang Long. His solid skills brought him a 13-9 victory.
